USC Women's Basketball Defeats Cal Poly
Trojans Continue Dominant Season with 72-59 Victory
Los Angeles, Calif. – The No. 10 USC Trojans women's basketball team continued their dominant season with a 72-59 victory over Cal Poly on Tuesday night at Galen Center.
The Trojans (10-0) were led by senior guard Jordan Sanders, who scored 18 points and added six rebounds. Junior forward Alissa Pili added 13 points, while senior center Aaliyah Boston chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
"We're really happy with the win," USC coach Lindsay Gottlieb said. "We played well in stretches, but we still have some things to work on. We're excited about where we're at and we're looking forward to continuing to improve."
The Trojans took control of the game early, jumping out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter. They led by as many as 18 points in the second quarter, but Cal Poly (4-6) cut the lead to 36-27 at the half.
USC extended their lead to 15 points in the third quarter, but again Cal Poly rallied to cut the lead to single digits. The Trojans held on for the win, however, hitting their free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
"We knew Cal Poly was a tough team," Sanders said. "They played hard and they made us work for everything we got. We're just happy to get the win and move on to the next one."
The Trojans will be back in action on Friday night when they host No. 15 UCLA at Galen Center.
