'Agility', 'precision', 'valuable edge' – Japanese media hail Kyogo in national team
Impressive display against Ecuador earns plaudits from Japanese press
Celtic's Kyogo Furuhashi has been hailed as a "valuable edge" to the Japanese national team after his impressive display in their 1-0 friendly win over Ecuador on Friday.
The 27-year-old striker started the match and played 64 minutes, causing problems for the Ecuadorian defence with his movement and clinical finishing.
Kyogo's performance was lauded by the Japanese press, with the Nikkan Sports newspaper describing him as "agile" and "precise".
'A valuable edge'
The Yomiuri Shimbun said Kyogo was a "valuable edge" to the team, while the Sankei Sports praised his "ability to find space in the box".
Kyogo's performance will give Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu a selection headache ahead of their World Cup opener against Germany on November 23.
The Celtic star is competing with the likes of Takuma Asano, Daichi Kamada and Ayase Ueda for a place in the starting line-up.
However, Kyogo's form for both club and country suggests that he is the man in possession of the number nine shirt.
'A player who can make a difference'
Moriyasu said after the Ecuador game that Kyogo is "a player who can make a difference".
"He is a very good finisher and he is always looking to get into scoring positions," said the Japan coach.
"He is also a very good team player and he works hard for the team."
Kyogo's next chance to impress Moriyasu will come in Japan's friendly against Canada on Tuesday.
Conclusion
Kyogo's impressive form for Celtic and Japan has made him a key player for both club and country.
His agility, precision and ability to find space in the box make him a valuable asset to any team.
If he can continue to perform at this level, he will be a major threat to Japan's opponents at the World Cup.
