Top Recruit Chooses Hoos
Ron Sanchez committed to play Men’s Basketball at the University of Virginia next fall. A 6-foot-9 center from Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Sanchez is a four-star recruit and the number one player from Virginia in the class of 2023, according to 247sports.
Sanchez is a highly skilled offensive player with an impressive skillset. He is considered an excellent shooter with great athleticism.
Sanchez averaged 20.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game during the 2022-23 high school regular season. Sanchez also led Virginia Episcopal to its first ever VISAA Division I state championship in March.
His performance earned him Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I player of the year.
Virginia men’s basketball coach Tony Bennett was ecstatic about this commitment.
Sanchez is the fifth member of Virginia’s 2023 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 2 in the ACC and No. 11 in the nation by 247sports.
Sanchez joins four-star small forward Isaac Traudt from Grand Island, Nebraska, three-star small forward Blake Buchanan from Owensboro, Kentucky, three-star power forward Andrej Stojakovic from Carmichael, California and three-star point guard Devin Dinkins from Montverde Academy in Florida in Virginia’s 2023 recruiting class,
Sanchez is a big get for Bennett and the Hoos. He is a talented player who will be a great addition to the Virginia program.
He is expected to make an immediate impact for the Cavaliers in the 2023-24 season,
