Hugo Broos and Paul Put in running to coach South Africa national soccer team
Former Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos and ex-Cameroon coach Paul Put lead the race to become the new head coach of the South Africa national soccer team.
The South African Football Association (SAFA) is on the lookout for a new coach after parting ways with Molefi Ntseki in March 2022.
Broos, who led Cameroon to Africa Cup of Nations glory in 2017, is a firm favourite for the job. The Belgian coach has a wealth of experience in Africa, having also coached Algeria and DR Congo.
Put, another Belgian coach, has also had success in Africa, leading Burkina Faso to the Africa Cup of Nations final in 2013. He has also coached Ivory Coast and Guinea.
Other candidates in the running for the job include Tom Saintfiet, Marc Brys and Pitso Mosimane. Saintfiet is a Belgian coach who has worked in Africa for many years, while Brys is a Belgian coach who has recently left OH Leuven.
Mosimane is a South African coach who has won the CAF Champions League twice with Mamelodi Sundowns. He is currently the coach of Al Ahly in Egypt.
SAFA is expected to make an announcement on the new coach in the coming weeks.
