Horse racing fans are in for a treat this Saturday, as Uttoxeter racecourse hosts a seven-race card featuring a competitive mix of handicaps, hurdles, and a steeple chase. With plenty of opportunities for both punters and racing enthusiasts alike, here are Timeform’s top selections for the day.
1.20pm Uttoxeter - Betfred "The Bonus King" Novices' Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 4) (3yo+)
A competitive novices' hurdle to get the card underway, with the unexposed Aliomaana stepping up in trip for just her second start over hurdles. She showed plenty of promise when second at this track latest and looks a big player, but preference is for the more experienced Dorking Lad, who has shaped with promise in defeat on his last couple of starts.
Selection: Dorking Lad
1.50pm Uttoxeter - Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 4) (4yo+)
The hat-trick seeking Knockgrafton gets the nap vote to defy a penalty in the handicap hurdle. He has improved with each start over hurdles and can defy a 6lb rise for his latest success at Ffos Las. The unexposed Street Cat could prove to be the biggest danger if taking to handicapping, while veteran performer C&D winner Ben Buie is another to consider.
Selection: Knockgrafton
2.25pm Uttoxeter - Follow @Betfred on Twitter Mares' Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (Class 4 Mares Only) (4yo+)
Having shown promise in bumpers and over hurdles earlier in the season, Via Cairoli could be the answer to the mares' novices' limited handicap chase. Venetia Williams' charge shaped with plenty of promise when third at this track on her chasing bow and can step forward from that under Charlie Deutsch.
Selection: Via Cairoli
3.00pm Uttoxeter - Betfred Grand National Trial Handicap Chase (Class 3) (4yo+)
A competitive renewal of the Betfred Grand National Trial, with the lightly-raced Fiddlerontheroof the tentative selection ahead of Dashel Drasher, who will be popular following his impressive victory in this race 12 months ago.
Selection: Fiddlerontheroof
3.35pm Uttoxeter - Betfred Midlands Grand National Handicap Chase (Class 3) (5yo+)
A wide-open renewal of the Midlands Grand National, with the unexposed nine-year-old Minella Escape likely to prove popular following his battling success at Catterick last time out. However, preference is for the mare Kitty's Light, who has shaped with promise in defeat on her last couple of starts and can gain her first victory since scoring at this track in October.
Selection: Kitty's Light
