Children in Need raises more than £39m
BBC's annual fundraising appeal smashes target
The BBC's annual Children in Need appeal has raised more than £39m - smashing its target by nearly £10m.
The total raised on Friday night's show was £39,389,038, a 25% increase on last year's total of £31,575,811.
The money will be used to support disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
The appeal was launched in 1980 and has since raised more than £1bn for children in need.
This year's appeal was supported by a host of celebrities, including Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and David Tennant.
The show also featured a performance from the cast of EastEnders, who sang a specially-written version of the show's theme tune.
Children in Need is one of the UK's biggest fundraising events, and it is supported by people from all walks of life.
The money raised will make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
Here are some of the ways the money will be used:
- To provide grants to projects that support children and young people
- To fund research into childhood illnesses
- To campaign for changes to government policy that will benefit children and young people
