American Airlines Flight Narrowly Avoids Mountain

Passengers and Crew Shaken After Close Call

Flight AA123 was En Route From Dallas to Los Angeles

An American Airlines flight from Dallas to Los Angeles narrowly avoided a mountain on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. The Boeing 737 was carrying 150 passengers and six crew members when it came within 500 feet of a mountain peak in Colorado.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the flight was on autopilot when it descended below the safe altitude. The pilots were able to regain control of the plane and pull it up just in time to avoid the mountain.

The NTSB is investigating the incident. So far, there is no indication of any mechanical problems with the plane.

The close call has left passengers and crew shaken. Many of the passengers said they thought they were going to die. One passenger, who asked not to be identified, said, "We were all screaming and crying. It was the most terrifying experience of my life."

American Airlines has issued a statement apologizing for the incident. The airline said it is cooperating with the NTSB investigation and is taking steps to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
