Zverev Beats Rublev To Start ATP Finals Campaign With Win
German Tennis Star Earns Straight-Sets Victory In Turin Opener
Alexander Zverev made a winning start to his ATP Finals campaign on Sunday with a straight-sets victory over Andrey Rublev in Turin.
The German, seeded second for the season-ending event, was too strong for Rublev, winning 6-4 6-4 in one hour and 36 minutes.
Zverev broke Rublev's serve twice in the first set and once in the second to secure victory.
Zverev Pleased With Performance
Zverev was pleased with his performance in his opening match.
"I'm happy with the way I played," he said. "I served well and returned well.
"It's always tough to play against Andrey, he's a great player, but I'm happy with the way I managed to win in straight sets."
Rublev Disappointed With Defeat
Rublev was disappointed with his defeat but praised Zverev's performance.
"I'm disappointed with the way I played today," he said. "I didn't serve well and I made too many mistakes.
"But credit to Alexander, he played very well and deserved to win."
Zverev Aiming To Win Title
Zverev is aiming to win the ATP Finals for the first time.
"I'm here to try and win the title," he said. "I know it's going to be tough, but I'm confident in my ability.
"I'm going to take it one match at a time and see how far I can go."
