Warren Gatland Returns as Wales Boss

Gatland replaces Wayne Pivac, who was sacked after Wales failed to qualify for the 2023 Rugby World Cup

Gatland previously coached Wales from 2008 to 2019, leading them to four Six Nations titles and two Rugby World Cup semi-finals

Warren Gatland will return as Wales head coach for a second spell, the Welsh Rugby Union has announced.

Gatland replaces Wayne Pivac, who was sacked after Wales failed to qualify automatically for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, finishing third in their pool behind France and Ireland.

The New Zealander previously coached Wales from 2008 to 2019, leading them to four Six Nations titles and two Rugby World Cup semi-finals.

Gatland's first match in charge of Wales will be against Ireland in the Six Nations on February 4.

Speaking at a press conference, Gatland said he was "excited" to be back involved with Wales.

"I'm really looking forward to getting started and working with the players and staff to achieve success," he said.

"I know there is a lot of work to do, but I'm confident that we can build a team that can compete with the best in the world."

Gatland's return has been welcomed by many Welsh rugby fans, who believe he is the right man to turn their fortunes around.

"Gatland is a proven winner," said one fan. "He knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level."

"I'm confident that he can get Wales back to where they belong," said another.

However, some fans are concerned about Gatland's age. He will be 60 by the time the next Rugby World Cup comes around.

"I'm not sure if he's the right man for the long term," said one fan.

"I think he's a great coach, but I'm not sure if he has the energy to do the job for another four years.

Only time will tell if Gatland can lead Wales to another golden era.
