Hokies Fall to Clemson in Overtime Thriller

Virginia Tech's hopes of an upset victory over No. 5 Clemson were dashed in overtime on Saturday night, as the Hokies fell 45-42 in a heartbreaking defeat. The game was a back-and-forth affair throughout, with both teams trading blows and the lead changing hands several times.
Virginia Tech took an early lead in the game, but Clemson responded with a touchdown of their own to tie the game at 7-7. The Hokies regained the lead in the second quarter, but Clemson once again answered back to tie the game at 14-14 at halftime.
The second half was just as close, with both teams trading field goals in the third quarter. Virginia Tech took a 24-21 lead in the fourth quarter, but Clemson tied the game again with a field goal of their own. The Hokies had a chance to win the game in regulation, but kicker John Parker Romo missed a 45-yard field goal attempt as time expired.
In overtime, Clemson won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball. The Tigers drove down the field and scored a touchdown on their first possession. Virginia Tech responded with a touchdown of their own, but the Hokies failed to convert the two-point conversion attempt, giving Clemson the 45-42 victory.
The loss drops Virginia Tech to 2-2 on the season, while Clemson improves to 4-0. The Hokies will be back in action next week when they travel to Miami to take on the Hurricanes.
