Two Recruits Sign with UConn Women

Two basketball recruits, Ayanna Patterson and Amari DeBerry, have officially signed their National Letters of Intent to play for the University of Connecticut Huskies.

Patterson, a 6-foot-3 center, is a consensus five-star recruit from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. She is considered one of the top post players in the country and has helped lead her team to two consecutive DCSAA championships.

DeBerry, a 6-foot-1 guard, is a four-star recruit from Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California. She is a dynamic scorer and passer who has helped lead her team to two CIF Central Coast Section championships.

Both Patterson and DeBerry are expected to make an immediate impact on the Huskies next season. They will join a team that is coming off a national championship and is looking to make another run at the title in 2023–24.

Patterson and DeBerry are the first two recruits to sign with UConn in the 2023 class.

Head coach Geno Auriemma is excited about the potential of his new recruits. "Ayanna and Amari are both incredibly talented players who I believe can help us win another national championship," Auriemma said.

"They are both hard workers and great teammates, and I am confident that they will be successful both on and off the court at UConn."

Patterson and DeBerry are both excited to join the Huskies.

"I'm so excited to be a part of the UConn family," Patterson said. "I've always dreamed of playing for Coach Auriemma and I can't wait to get to Storrs and start working towards winning a national championship."

"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to play for UConn," DeBerry said. "I know that I'm going to be pushed to be my best every day, and I'm excited to see how much I can improve as a player."

The Huskies are scheduled to open their 2023–24 season on November 7 against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
