The government and trade unions will sit down again
Funda Oru (Voorui): "Concerns such as purchasing power, pensions and healthcare come to the negotiating table"
The government, unions and employers will sit down again in the coming days to negotiate the inter-professional agreement (IPA). The unions held a press conference after the meeting with Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter and Minister of Employment Pierre-Yves Dermagne. They wanted to hear how De Croo intends to work on purchasing power and to see whether the next government would continue with the current policy.
Purchasing power, pensions and healthcare
Funda Oru, president of the socialist trade union Vooruit, said that the talks must focus on concerns such as purchasing power, pensions and healthcare. According to her, the government must focus more on the people and less on supporting employers. Patrick Develtere of the Christian trade union ACV calls for smart measures to protect purchasing power. According to him, financing the tax shift must be halted.
Government demands concessions from unions
According to De Croo, the government is also struggling with purchasing power. Nevertheless, he calls on the unions to show moderation in their demands. He hopes that the next few weeks will bring tangible results. Union representatives, on the other hand, emphasize that it is not the unions that are making profits but companies.
