Sylvester Stallone sparked controversy on Thursday night when he compared President-elect Donald Trump to George Washington during his introduction of Trump at the American Film Institute’s 44th Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute to John Williams.
“I know I’m not supposed to say this, but he is like the second coming of, in a sense, George Washington,” Stallone said. “There’s something very, very special about him, the way he relates to people. He doesn’t have to like you. You don’t have to like him. But he wants to help the people of this country, and that’s a very special trait.”
Stallone’s comments were met with mixed reactions from the audience. Some people cheered, while others booed. However, Trump appeared to be amused by Stallone’s remarks, and he gave Stallone a thumbs-up.
In his speech, Stallone also praised Trump’s “economic prowess” and “acumen.” He said that Trump is a “very smart businessman” who knows how to “get things done.”
“He’s a very, very smart businessman,” Stallone said. “He knows how to get things done. He’s a very good negotiator. He’s a very tough negotiator. But he’s also a very fair negotiator.”
Stallone’s comments come as Trump prepares to take office on January 20. Trump has been a controversial figure throughout his campaign, and his policies have been criticized by many people.
However, Stallone said that he believes that Trump will be a “great president.” He said that Trump is a “very strong leader” who will “make America great again.”
“I think he’s going to be a great president,” Stallone said. “He’s a very strong leader. He’s a very decisive leader. He’s a very tough leader. But he’s also a very fair leader. And I think he’s going to make America great again.”
