PAGASA raises tropical cyclone alert as Typhoon Maymay enters PAR
State weather bureau PAGASA has placed several areas in the country under a tropical cyclone alert as Typhoon Maymay entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday, October 16, 2022.
In its 11 am bulletin on Sunday, PAGASA said that Typhoon Maymay was located 1,235 kilometers east of Central Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 125 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 155 kph.
The state weather bureau has raised a Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 over the following areas:
- Catanduanes
- Albay
- Sorsogon
- Masbate including Ticao Island
- Eastern Samar
- Northern Samar
- Samar
- Leyte
- Southern Leyte
- Biliran
PAGASA said that these areas may experience strong winds and intermittent heavy rains within 36 hours.
The state weather bureau also warned that sea travel is risky over the seaboards of areas under TCWS No. 1.
PAGASA said that Typhoon Maymay is expected to move west northwestward at 20 kph.
The state weather bureau said that it will continue to monitor the typhoon and issue updates as necessary.
