Lindsay Gottlieb Describes the New World of Women's College Basketball
Overcoming Challenges and Creating Opportunities
Lindsay Gottlieb, the new head coach of the USC women's basketball team, spoke to reporters on Friday about her vision for the program. Gottlieb, who has been a successful coach at both the college and professional levels, talked about the challenges and opportunities she sees in the current landscape of women's college basketball. One of the biggest challenges, Gottlieb said, is the increasing talent gap between the top and bottom teams in the country. She pointed to the fact that the top teams in the country are now regularly beating their opponents by 30 or 40 points, while the bottom teams are struggling to win games. This gap, Gottlieb said, is making it difficult for mid-major and smaller schools to compete for championships.
"We need to find a way to level the playing field," Gottlieb said. "We need to make it possible for more teams to compete for championships."
Gottlieb also talked about the opportunities she sees in the current landscape of women's college basketball. She said that the sport is growing in popularity, and that there is more interest in women's basketball than ever before. She also pointed to the fact that there are now more resources available to women's basketball programs, which is making it possible for teams to compete at a higher level.
Building a Successful Program
Gottlieb said that her goal is to build a successful program at USC that can compete for championships. She said that she plans to do this by recruiting top players, developing a strong team culture, and playing an exciting brand of basketball."We want to be a team that is known for its toughness, its passion, and its execution," Gottlieb said. "We want to be a team that our fans are proud of."
Gottlieb said that she is excited about the opportunity to coach at USC. She said that she believes that the Trojans have the potential to be one of the top teams in the country.
