Virginia Tech Secures Resounding 27-10 Victory Over Old Dominion
Blacksburg, VA - The Virginia Tech Hokies delivered a resounding performance on Saturday, dismantling the Old Dominion Monarchs 27-10 in a resounding triumph at Lane Stadium.
The Hokies' defense put on a clinic, stifling the Monarchs' offense throughout the contest. Old Dominion managed just 168 total yards, including a mere 38 on the ground. The Hokies forced three turnovers, including two interceptions by senior cornerback Armani Chatman.
Offensively, Virginia Tech was led by quarterback Grant Wells, who completed 18 of 26 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Keshawn King added 106 yards on the ground, including a 1-yard touchdown plunge.
The Hokies' victory marks their second straight win and improves their record to 2-1 on the season. Old Dominion, meanwhile, falls to 1-2.
Defense Dominates for Virginia Tech
The Hokies' defense was the star of the show on Saturday, holding the Monarchs to just 10 points and 168 total yards. Old Dominion managed just 38 rushing yards on 26 attempts, an average of 1.5 yards per carry.
The Hokies' pass rush was particularly effective, sacking Old Dominion quarterback Hayden Wolff four times. Chatman's two interceptions were also key in limiting the Monarchs' scoring opportunities.
The Hokies' defense has now allowed just 20 points in their first three games of the season.
Wells, King Lead Hokies' Offense
Wells was efficient and effective through the air for the Hokies, completing 18 of 26 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 30 rushing yards on six carries.
King was the Hokies' leading rusher, carrying the ball 22 times for 106 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 27 yards.
The Hokies' offense was able to move the ball consistently against the Monarchs' defense, but they struggled to finish drives at times. Virginia Tech settled for three field goals on Saturday, including a 46-yarder by William Ross in the fourth quarter.
Hokies Look to Continue Momentum
The Hokies will look to continue their momentum next Saturday when they host the West Virginia Mountaineers at Lane Stadium. The Mountaineers are 2-1 on the season, coming off a 33-10 victory over Towson.
The Hokies will need to be at their best to defeat the Mountaineers, who have a talented offense led by quarterback JT Daniels and running back CJ Donaldson.
