Gijs boosts The Kinks in Evergreen Top 1000

A new record high for the Eternal Top 1000 by Gijs van den Heuvel.

The Kinks had not been in the Evergreen Top 1000 for ten years, but thanks to Gijs van den Heuvel, the British band is back in the list. Last week Gijs chose their song 'Waterloo Sunset' from 1967. With this, the counter of the Eternal Top 1000 of Radio Veronica stands at 710 different artists.

The song originally reached number 2 in the Top 40 in June 1967, and was voted number 1 in the Evergreen Top 1000 in 2015 and 2019.

'Waterloo Sunset' is one of the few hits that Ray Davies wrote with his brother Dave.

The latter left The Kinks after a few more hits and founded The Dave Davies Band.

The lyrics of 'Waterloo Sunset' are about a couple who meet at Waterloo Station in London and decide to leave everything behind to start a new life together. The song is known for its beautiful melody and melancholic atmosphere.

Gijs is a passionate fan of The Kinks. He has been voting for their songs in the Evergreen Top 1000 for years. He is also a member of the Dutch Kinks fan club.

"I think The Kinks are one of the best bands ever," says Gijs. "Their songs are timeless and always sound fresh." Besides 'Waterloo Sunset', Gijs also voted for 'You Really Got Me', 'All Day and All of the Night' and 'Lola' in the Evergreen Top 1000.

The new edition of the Evergreen Top 1000 can be heard on Radio Veronica on December 31 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
