Craig Bellamy: No easy route to World Cup for Wales regardless of Nations League
Wales will earn a World Cup play-off spot if they win their Nations League group - but former striker Craig Bellamy believes there is no easy route to Qatar in 2022.
Wales will be in Pot 2 for the World Cup play-offs if they finish top of their Nations League group, but Bellamy feels there are no easy ties at that stage.
Wales have been handed a favourable Nations League draw and could secure a World Cup play-off spot by winning their group.
However, former Wales international Bellamy believes there is no room for complacency despite the draw putting Rob Page's side in Pot 2 for the play-offs.
Wales will avoid the likes of Italy, Portugal and France in the play-offs should they win their group - but Bellamy feels there are no easy ties at that stage.
"There are no easy teams," Bellamy told Sky Sports.
"North Macedonia have just shown how good they are, Scotland have improved, and Austria are a good team.
"You play two games to get to a World Cup, it's not like the Euros where you play three. It's one game and you go home, so it will be tough."
Wales have not reached the World Cup since 1958, and Bellamy is keen for the current crop of players to end that long wait.
"It's huge," Bellamy added.
"I've spoken about it so many times; it's been too long for us as a nation. The potential is there to get there, but there's a long way to go.
