SMU falls at Galen Center, 84-67

Mustangs drop to 2-3 in non-conference play

LOS ANGELES - SMU rallied from 11 points down in the second half, but No. 3 USC was too much for the Mustangs in an 84-67 defeat at the Galen Center Wednesday night.

SMU junior guard Zach Nutall led the Mustangs with 15 points, while sophomore forward Efe Odigie scored 14 and senior forward Elijah Landsberg added 13.

The Trojans were led by senior guard Boogie Ellis, who scored 24 points, and junior forward Tre White, who added 20.

USC improved to 5-0 on the season, while SMU dropped to 2-3.

The Mustangs trailed by 11 points with 15:35 remaining in the second half, but they rallied to cut the deficit to 50-46 with 10:47 left.

However, USC answered with a 9-0 run to take a 59-46 lead with 8:27 remaining.

The Mustangs never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

SMU shot 37.3% from the field, including 28.6% from three-point range, while USC shot 47.6% from the field, including 38.5% from three-point range.

The Trojans also outrebounded the Mustangs 40-29.

SMU will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 26, when they host Central Arkansas at Moody Coliseum.
