Assen: Bystanders and Police Extinguish Burning Van
Quick thinking and collaboration lead to a successful outcome
Assen, Netherlands - August 24, 2023
A burning van on the A28 near Assen was quickly extinguished on Wednesday afternoon thanks to the joint efforts of bystanders and police.
Around 4:00 PM, a van caught fire on the A28 near the Assen-Noord interchange. Witnesses saw the smoke and flames and immediately called for help.
Police and fire crews were quickly dispatched to the scene. However, before they could arrive, bystanders had already begun to extinguish the fire using fire extinguishers from their own vehicles.
The police assisted the bystanders in containing the fire until the fire department arrived and extinguished the remaining flames.
The fire caused significant damage to the van, but no injuries were reported.
The police praised the quick thinking and collaboration of the bystanders, whose actions helped to prevent the fire from spreading and potentially causing further damage.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
