An American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu narrowly avoided a mountain range in Hawaii on Sunday, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The Boeing 737-800 was carrying 189 passengers and crew members when it encountered strong winds and turbulence near the island of Maui.
The plane was flying at an altitude of about 10,000 feet when it suddenly dropped about 1,000 feet, according to the NTSB.
The pilots were able to regain control of the plane and land it safely at Honolulu International Airport.
No one was injured in the incident.
The NTSB is investigating the cause of the incident.
